A solar-punk reimagining of Krakow that uses generative AI to transform photography into a cinematic vision of a lush, sustainable metropolis.
Starting with iPhone photography of my hometown, I used generative AI to conceptualize Krakow as a green, solar-punk metropolis.
The project evolved from static visualizations into a short film, blending architectural perspectives with motion design to showcase a potential future for existing urban spaces.
Walking through the main market square, which is almost entirely paved with stone and concrete, made me think: what would it be like if this place were actually green as it's supposed to be?
What would it look like if people really paid attention to greenery?
I wanted to show the familiar touristy pictures that people take, but I was also curious about details like bus stops or places that tourists may not see—spots everyday citizens experience, such as crossings under bridges.
It was a constant process of correction. For example, AI typically produces red trams, but Krakow has blue ones, and I had to fix that many times to keep it authentic.
It was about choosing the right angle and format. If I knew the AI might mess up a landmark when zooming out, I would prompt it to dolly in or move to the side instead.
It was a trial-and-error process where I eventually learned exactly what motion trajectories I could ask for to avoid revealing technical flaws.
It provided my own daily perspective—an artistic interpretation rooted in raw reality. If you ask AI for images of Krakow from scratch, they are never accurate or up to date.
Starting with my own raw, unfiltered photos was the only way to ensure the foundation was real.
